About Melañio Gomez

Thank you for taking a look at my portfolio, which showcases a number of photographic images that I've produced for both editorial & commercial clients. Various experiences have led me to this point in my career.

After graduating from art school  I joined a packaging design firm in New York City working on commercial projects. From there I began working as a graphic designer, at another firm. It was here I began styling photo shoots, mainly due to lack of budget to hire a professional stylist.

I moved over to a studio that specialized in catalogs for high end retail centers, here I gained most of my early photo shoot experience where I art directed catalogs and styled photo shoots.

During this period I began freelanceing primarily working with Estee Lauder. I created displays and special event graphics.  On occasion I took projects with Tiffany and Co. as an illustrator designing trophies.

I began working as a freelance art director for a private label producer of fashion underwear.  I designed packaging, styled photo shoots as well as video, working with models for clients such as Ralph Lauren, The Limited, & The Gap.

While working in my early career in New York City two art school friends and I started a multi-disciplinary design firm called Top Spin.  We eventually made the leap, and went into business full time.  Top Spin produced a wide range of projects including industrial, graphic, product, interior design, as well as corporate identity.  Our clients included Barneys, Bloomingdales, Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath and Beyond, Saks 5th Avenue, SFMOMA, The Met, Saks 5th Avenue, and the MTA.

After several years in business the career objectives of my Top Spin partners and I each took different directions and we ended the business.  I began a series of new projects:  I freelanced for David Beam, Phillip Baloun and Preston Bailey as an events florist, and my partner and I purchased and renovated five homes. Years before I helped my mom renovate her Philadelphia townhouse which proved to be excellent training for the years of renovation projects in my life.

I took a position at with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia,  first as a style editor & ultimately became theEditorial Director of Home… producing content, products, photoshoots, and radio programs. After 7 years my partner & I decided to relocate to europe & settled in Brussels, Belgium.

At that point I began freelancing once again, traveling back & forth working on editorial and commercial shoots both in the US & Europe. I currently work locally in San Francisco & New York.

Thanks for your interest & for viewing my work.
